Dorset Manor

Perched high above the local village and set amongst rolling lawns and a one-acre lake, this Dorset Manor House is a Grade II Listed property dating to the 13th century when William the Conqueror gifted it to one of his favourite noblemen.

Over time, the property has evolved into something of a historical jigsaw puzzle with Norman and Georgian architecture pieced together with wooden beams, stone walls, ancient flagstone floors, large fireplaces and detailed wooden panelling.

Our clients approached us with the brief to restore this historical home in a way that made sense for contemporary needs but without jeopardising its rich character. We began by stripping back the layers of previous decoration to reveal the extraordinary bones of the property and then set about sensitively re-configuring the space to be better for modern living.

From the moment one steps through the front door, we wanted to create a gentle reminder of the home’s immense heritage. We left the interior features exposed and embraced a pared back scheme to preserve the patina of the past, whilst seamlessly combining a modern aesthetic to create a comfortable and elegant family home.
