Mayfair hotel
Set in one of Mayfair’s most notable locations overlooking Green Park, this project saw an underused business lounge transformed into a collection of luxury suites. We worked closely with the hotel to create sophisticated, residential-style interiors that reflect its history while making the most of the exceptional London setting.
As the first stage in the ongoing refurbishment of guest rooms across The Athenaeum, the project establishes a new design direction for the hotel while marking a significant chapter for Sims Hilditch. It reflects our growing hospitality portfolio and continued expansion within London, bringing our signature British design aesthetic to one of the capital's most iconic addresses.
Overlooking the treetops of Green Park, the design centred on creating a calm retreat from the pace of Piccadilly below. Planned to be booked individually or combined as a larger family suite, the layouts offer flexibility without compromising on comfort or character. Every decision was guided by the guest experience, creating spaces that feel refined yet relaxed, where generous seating, bespoke furnishings and carefully considered lighting encourage guests to unwind while making the most of the panoramic views across London's skyline.
Inspired by Mayfair's rich architectural heritage and evolving cultural landscape, the interiors combine our signature aesthetic with a more refined approach perfectly suited to the hotel’s distinguished setting. Classical cornicing and bespoke mouldings sit alongside finely crafted walnut joinery and brass detailing, while subtle Art Deco influences and townhouse-inspired elements reference the heritage of The Athenaeum.
Tailoring-inspired details - decorative trims and carefully layered textures - draw subtle inspiration from neighbouring Savile Row, reinforcing a design language that feels unmistakably and quintessentially London.
Celebrated as one of the best views in London, the outlook across Green Park became the defining feature of the project. Working within the constraints of the original building - including low ceiling heights and services risers - the layouts were carefully planned to maximise natural light and orientate each suite towards the views beyond. Every room feels open, light-filled and connected to the landscape outside, despite its central London location. A palette of calming greens and blues, paired with richer neutrals were chosen to reflect the changing colours of the park throughout the seasons.
As with all our work, craftsmanship sits at the heart of this project, with many elements designed specifically for the suites. Bespoke upholstered headboards, bedside tables and coffee tables were exclusively commissioned, complemented by carefully selected British fabrics from Fermoie, Colefax and Fowler and GP & J Baker. Decorative trims by Samuel & Sons, handcrafted upholstery by Cotswolds makers and lighting from Vaughan reinforce the layered and relaxed quality of the interiors.
Working within an existing hotel presented a number of challenges, but rather than seeing these as limitations, we used them as opportunities for thoughtful intervention. The existing timber parquet flooring was carefully retained, reducing waste while preserving continuity within the building. Combined with durable materials and responsibly sourced furnishings, this considered approach reflects our commitment to creating interiors that balance beauty with longevity.
