A historic Grade I Regency Townhouse in Bath

Back to projects

Nothing excites us more than a property with a rich history and inspiring heritage. Situated in the stunning city of Bath, the design of this Grade I Regency Townhouse was very much influenced by the story of the building.

From the very beginning, our designers felt it was integral to retain the Georgian architectural history throughout the house. Because of this, we sourced a range of antique pieces and brown-toned furniture inspired by the heritage.

As always, we like to play with old versus new so we incorporated a number of contemporary touches, such as bespoke joinery with dark, contrast colours to accentuate the unique detailing. As the property is Grade I listed, there were very few structural changes so our design decisions centred on colour choices, lighting and general decoration.

Our clients wanted to enhance the natural beauty and inherent grandeur of the formal entertaining rooms, whilst still ensuring a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere and incorporating their favourite colour palette of pink and grey.

Out of all the rooms in the house, we feel the north-west facing library is one of the most impactful. A naturally dark area, we dialled up the drama with striking 'Smoke' paint. We reversed the concept for the south-east facing drawing room which is naturally flooded with light. Here, we wanted to highlight the existing architectural detail and let the grand proportions speak for themselves. From the claw foot bathtub to the swathes of fabric that drape across the door frame, we feel this house is the epitome of timeless luxury and perfectly in keeping with its Regency surroundings.
