Which Green is Right For My Home?

The arrival of autumn brings with it an array of beautiful colours and textures, and as designers, this offers a wealth of inspiration for our interiors.

Burnt oranges and deep reds spring to mind when considering how to weave seasonal tones into a room, however it is the choice of green that works particularly well when creating a timeless yet stylish interior, inspired by nature. We look specifically at the different paints and wall coverings available when designing homes located in the city and the country, creating varying degrees of modern country style.

City Homes

This large scale ‘Carnival’ wallpaper from Christopher Farr is a great opportunity to be brave with colour and pattern, and looks particularly striking when paired with darker painted cabinetry. The dramatic design is offset by a soft scalloped headboard, creating a contemporary yet calming aesthetic in this London townhouse bedroom.

In terms of paint, this wonderfully fresh ‘Cooking Apple Green’ by Farrow & Ball is the ideal choice for a city bedroom that is embracing country style. It looks lovely in this Bath home, creating a classical, light and airy aesthetic that works well wherever you're located.

Try Cooking Apple Green by Farrow and Ball in your bedroom for a cool, contemporary-country look.

Emma Sims-Hilditch

We aimed to retain the original Georgian elegance of this Grade I Regency Townhouse, so we selected a soft Moss Green paint by Neptune and paired it with a timeless shade of Silver Birch for the architraves and skirting of the entrance hall, setting the tone for the rest of the house.

Country Homes

We love this new Olive Green shade by Neptune, which can be found in our founder and creative director Emma Sims Hilditch’s kitchen! Emma has paired this comforting yet stylish shade with a classic Snow White on her cabinets, creating a dramatic contrast that makes the kitchen island pop.

Another room that lends itself well to the natural green tones of Moss by Neptune is the sitting room. We aimed to create an interior that reflected this property's stunning Cotswold setting, so we painted the woodwork and walls in this shade and paired it with Farrow & Ball's Strong White on the ceiling and a Savannah carpet by Crucial Trading on the floor, creating a tranquil and homely environment.

For a versatile green, Farrow and Ball’s Pigeon can be used in entrance halls, bedrooms or utility spaces. Paired with Salt - an elegant off-white by Neptune - on the cornices and skirting, it creates a welcoming interior reminiscent of the country surroundings of this Old Rectory.
