Favourite Sources: Fermoie

At Sims Hilditch we are always looking for new sources, but we also have some long standing favourites that we come back to again and again. The first one I want to tell you about is Fermoie, a fantastic British textiles company.

I first came across Fermoie at Decorex International (decorex.com), the UK’s leading interior design trade fair. It was founded by Martin Ephson and Tom Helme, the previous co-owners of Farrow & Ball, so that immediately drew me in.

I immediately loved the fresh and pretty colours of the fabrics. Also on show were gathered lampshades, which offered an exciting alternative to the very plain silk and linen lampshades that had been in favour since the early noughties.

We began buying a few lampshades and cushions but as the collection grew we found ourselves using the fabrics for curtains and upholstery too. The fabrics inject colour and personality into our schemes without being over-the-top or shouty. At Sims Hilditch we delight in all things natural and beautiful, so the raw textured linen that Fermoie use as ground cloth is perfect for our schemes.

The relationship with have with the charming and energetic manager Jamie Shawcross is great. He is always happy to see us at the company’s wonderful showroom in Pimlico. We have even been to visit the Fermoie factory in Marlborough where all the fabrics are designed and printed.

My favourite design is probably Savernake, which is named after the Savernake Forest near Marlborough, particularly in the vibrant yellow colourway. It is lively, yet elegant and looks fabulous in country houses.

If you like the sound of Fermoie do have a look at its website: www.fermoie.com or its instagram account: @fermoie, which is full of inspiring images.
